WORK (re-issue)[CUPCD6 - 2003]

hurts too much to cry
© Woodstock Taylor 1998

I've been holding on so long
Sometimes I wonder what's the point in going on
I'm so tired of this fight
What does it take to make one person see the light?
That person's you, yeah, it's true:
I've had enough, I'm giving up,
No chance of getting through;
The reason why -
It hurts too much to cry

Situation unresolved;
How many times I wish I'd never got involved.
Expectation disappears
But you won't see me breaking down in tears -
Well, not tonight, you're all right.
No need to deal with how I feel,
We'll leave that to one side;
The reason why -
It hurts too much to cry

Why did I think you'd understand
Just shows how foolish I can be.
The castle built on shifting sand
Will soon be washed away to sea.

In the end I always cope
But there are times you need a little more than hope
On the verge of something new
Yet still the goalposts keep on sliding out of view -
So many lies, It's no surprise
That you won't see the core of me by looking in my eyes;
The reason why -
It hurts too much to cry.
