WOODSTOCK SAYS: These are four out of the five lovesongs from Road Movie 1 (the Director's Cut). The other one is Bruise Jam, which is on Sunny Days in London. I've recently started playing If You with Accordion Pete and Alien Kabaret - it's a very different treatment but because the song is quite folky it works. A couple of years ago I performed Happening at my aunt and uncle's golden wedding party, but I didn't really do it justice. I've never done Make Love Part 2 live although I really love this song. Maybe one of these days it'll happen. The title track, Between Us, I performed with the Big Roll Band at the Bull's Head, Barnes, in London in 2003. It went down really well and helped sell a few copies of Road Movie. The original photo was taken near Bury St Edmunds by Carol, the ex-wife of my friend Andrew Oliver, who does an Elton John tribute act, and who kindly lent one of Elton's cast-off coats (bought from the Aids Foundation charity sale) for the occasion. One of my small claims to Also-Ran status is the fact I had the same piano teacher as Elton John. I didn't find that out till years later though. Robin McMorran did the first draft of the Warhol parody and I liked it so much I made a T-shirt.
Individual song details are on the Road Movie page.
